Fashion Design

• General Information

  • The education, training and R & D activities of Fashion Design Department are being carried out with the framework of cooperation created between the Rector of Istanbul Technical University and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT, New York) under the New York State University (SUNY). Accordingly, students accepted to the named department will continue their education for 5 terms (first year fall-spring terms, second year fall term, third year fall-spring terms) in Istanbul Technical University at Istanbul and the last 4 academic term in FIT at New York. (Second year, spring-summer terms; forth year, fall-spring terms) They graduate with a diploma including the approval of both institutions. 30 students are accepted to this department each year, teaching language is English. Students who graduate this department have work permits for one year in the United States.

    Objectives of the Program: To bring up designers who has the ability of creating brand and fashion 

    Content: In the scope of the program; stitching techniques, preparation of models, theoretical and practical lessons that includes both technique and artistic content are shown to the students. The program gives the ideas for designing a cloth for a specific purpose. On the other hand, this program develops the ability of designing by using various computerized programs.  Also The History of Societies, The History of Design, The History of Art and Economy are the other lessons for the Fashion Design students.  

• Rudiments of Program

  • It is a double certification, associate program that is between ITU and SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology.

    • Program accepts students from 2004-2005 academic year.
    • Program is totally in English.
    • The students, who could not get the sufficient points from Language Evaluation, continue to the ITU   ENGLISH PREP SCHOOL for 1 year.
    • Program will accept 35 students.
    • At the end of the program, students deserve to get both schools' certifications.
    • Lessons will be at ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus.
    • Students have to present their PORTFOLIOS, which is explained in details at web page, to the preregistration.

• The Procedure of Prep Portfolio and Design Test

  The candidate who've scored min. 180 points from YGS will have chance to attend to the General Ability Examination and Engagement, the prospering will deserve to attend the program.  

  Please read the explanations carefully, make your preparation and be sure that the documents that you have delivered are complete.

  • An essay that includes max. 250 words about the applicant's carrier plan
  • Portfolio that includes the drawings and the photographs of the cloths. (Originals, copies or photographs of drawings are available; dia/slide is not available.)
  • The assessment will be done due to the creativity, design and technical ability.
  • Applications can be done in Turkish or in English. (English is preferred.)
